Tarrawanna’s star player and IPL Leading Goal Scorer, Ricky Zucco, has been signed by Team Wellington in the New Zealand National League.
Zucco was under contract to Tarrawanna but was released earlier this week after trialling with A-League side Wellington Phoenix for the first month of 2012.
The player scored two goals in a ‘training’ game against the Phoenix and impressed coach Ricky Herbert so much, the club asked Zucco to sign for Team Wellington, which is a ‘feeder’ club for the Phoenix, so they could have a look at him in match conditions in the NZNL before making a decision on whether to sign him to professional contract with the A-League side.
This is another real opportunity for the talented player to prove himself at the top level in this part of world. Zucco has been a standout for the Blueys in the past two seasons for different reasons but no one can question his eye for goal after capturing the IPL leading goal scorer award in those two years with in excess of 20 goals on both occasions.
Ricky has left with the blessing of the club and I am sure everyone in the Illawarra Football Family wishes him all the best as he pursues his dream.
Good Luck Ricky!
